The news station tours in Chicago led cherubs to explore new fields and reimagine their careers as they walked around live news sets, spoke to journalists and took photos.
During the CBS Chicago tour, Kai Shah of Burlingame, California, wasn’t expecting to catch a glimpse into the future with just one photo.
“It was really cool, and I thought the tour guide was really nice for using me as an example for how I like sports and related that to chasing what you want and showing experience in what you want to pursue,” Shah said. “I’ve always been interested in sports broadcasting, so it definitely gave me a sense for what that could look like in the future if I get that job.”
Over at the Wall Street Journal, Glennis Woosley of Nixa, Missouri, said that though she was worried because she didn’t know a lot about finance journalism, it worked out well.
“Now I have a little bit of a better understanding of what field I like, what beat I want to go into and how I’ll go into it,” Woosley said. “I might actually do business journalism at the start to figure out what I want because it’s so universal.”
Eva Berkson of Brookline, Massachusetts, said going to the local Fox affiliate station wasn’t her top choice but “exceeded her expectations.”
“I’m still not sure what I want to do, but I do think I hadn’t thought about broadcast that much, so it’s really cool to see it in person, and it definitely made me excited about it,” Berkson said.
