This Fourth of July, cherubs enjoyed taking photos and interviewing Evanston residents, performers and politicians at the city’s annual parade despite having to walk for miles through high temperatures to do so.

“I loved seeing the community of Evanston all just come together,” said Fiona Kiely, 17, of New York. “I thought it was just a really vibrant and exciting, like, parade.”

Kiely said her favorite part was eating at Mustard’s Last Stand. As for the walk and the heat, Kiely said she did not mind it as much as others because she is used to walking and liked spending time with fellow cherubs during the walk itself.

Kai Shah, 17, of Burlingame, California, said he enjoyed socializing with paradegoers and playing frisbee with kids at the parade. Shah also said he drank water and pursued shade to fend off the heat.

Logan Szymanski, 16, of Edwardsville, Illinois, called the walk “an absolute nightmare” due to the heat. Nevertheless, Szymanski said he still enjoyed the parade.

“I thought it was really fun getting to see a lot of different, unique floats and getting the experience of covering it from a journalistic angle,” Szymanski said.
