Each year at the Medill-Northwestern Journalism Institute, cherubs produce the website you are actively viewing. The Tech Team is responsible for creating interactive activities as well as compiling articles, videos and photos.
In 2026, for the first time in cherub history, the Tech Team was composed solely of girls.
Our Tech Team gives a special shoutout to community and academic associate Taariq Ahmed and instructor Mary Lou Song for constantly supporting us in creating this website.
Sascha Keller
Previously serving as online editor for her school newspaper, Sascha Keller of Chicago developed a passion for technology and website presence that motivated her to become tech coordinator. Keller believes that technology is of the utmost importance to any publication, but especially for cherubs to show prospective attendees how amazing the program is.
Leila Singer
Passionate about STEM and journalism, Leila Singer of Rockville, Maryland, developed a love for website design and is excited to showcase the cherubs’ work as tech coordinator. Singer is the print managing editor and illustrator for her high school paper, and she especially enjoys making and editing layouts for print. Outside of school, Singer markets and designs a website for her family’s cookie business, The Sugar Doughmain.
Claire Ales
Serving as editor-in-chief and design lead for her school newspaper, Claire Ales of St. Paul, Minnesota, chose to join the Tech Team because she enjoys using design to create and elevate a story. Ales loves finding new ways to implement design into publications and is looking forward to using the knowledge she has gained.
Ariel Liu
Ariel Liu of San Ramon, California, is the arts & entertainment editor for her school newspaper, the Wildcat Tribune. She joined the Tech Team because of her passion for technology and because she wanted to take part in designing a website to showcase the cherubs' work.
Sofia Lugo
Sofia Lugo of Weston, Florida, chose to join the Tech Team because, alongside her passion for journalism, she is interested in computer science. She hopes to pursue both of her interests in the future.
Lucie van Kwawegen
Lucie van Kwawegen of Brooklyn, New York, is the web editor for her school newspaper, the Prism. She joined the Tech Team because, after acquiring the skills to use InDesign last year, she was interested in also learning how to use WordPress.
