If there’s one thing cherubs love, it’s food. After long days spent writing stories, listening to lectures and doing interviews, we always go to one place: the vending machines. For Claire Lin, they’re very convenient.
[VENDING MACHINE SOUND]
CLAIRE LIN: When I come down here, it’s because I don’t like walking to Allison or anywhere to eat. After lectures, I’m starving, I’m thirsty, I’m tired but I’m never too tired to walk down the stairs and get chips.”
For Alice Xiao, the vending machines have a lot of new food items.
[VENDING MACHINE SOUND]
ALICE XIAO: I’m a huge fan of the vending machine. Whenever you can’t track me down, head to the vending machine at Fisk! I got a bottle of apple juice today, since I’ve basically tried every juice they have here. I try to pick something new every day.
The selection of food from the vending machines is limited, but it has a few gems that cherubs like Emerson Roux enjoy.
EMERSON ROUX: I’ve used the ones, um, downstairs in Jones the most often, especially when I really just want like a Coke and I’m just craving a Coke and I don’t feel like walking all the way to Allison to get it. I’ve also gotten candy from the vending machine a couple times. I really like the Airheads Bites specifically. I got those before the movie night that John hosted, so that was great.
The availability of the vending machines is new to the program. Cynthia Wang, a senior instructor and former cherub, didn’t have any vending machines to use when she was at the program in 1986.
CYNTHIA WANG: I wish there were vending machines but I don’t remember any in Fisk when I was a cherub. There was a grocery store, I guess on the corner by Target, called Jewel-Osco so you bought snacks there, and that was the only way you were going to get any snacks.
