{"id":8039,"date":"2025-07-22T19:46:05","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T00:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cherubs.medill.northwestern.edu\/2025\/?p=8039"},"modified":"2025-07-22T23:31:04","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T04:31:04","slug":"fun-in-the-sun-evanstons-fourth-of-july-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cherubs.medill.northwestern.edu\/2025\/07\/fun-in-the-sun-evanstons-fourth-of-july-parade\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Fun\u2019 in the sun: Evanston\u2019s Fourth of July parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This Fourth of July, cherubs enjoyed taking photos and interviewing Evanston residents, performers and politicians at the city\u2019s annual parade despite having to walk for miles through high temperatures to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI loved seeing the community of Evanston all just come together,\u201d said Fiona Kiely, 17, of New York. \u201cI thought it was just a really vibrant and exciting, like, parade.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kiely said her favorite part was eating at Mustard\u2019s Last Stand. As for the walk and the heat, Kiely said she did not mind it as much as others because she is used to walking and liked spending time with fellow cherubs during the walk itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kai Shah, 17, of Burlingame, California, said he enjoyed socializing with paradegoers and playing frisbee with kids at the parade. Shah also said he drank water and pursued shade to fend off the heat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Logan Szymanski, 16, of Edwardsville, Illinois, called the walk \u201can absolute nightmare\u201d due to the heat.
