{"id":7907,"date":"2025-07-22T21:06:48","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T21:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cherubs.medill.northwestern.edu\/2025\/?p=7907"},"modified":"2025-07-22T23:28:32","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T04:28:32","slug":"rooted-in-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cherubs.medill.northwestern.edu\/2025\/07\/rooted-in-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Rooted in community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After weeks of relying on dining hall meals, Maya Segal of Raleigh, North Carolina, saw the Evanston Farmers&#8217; Market as a chance to find healthier options and explore the city beyond the usual cherubs hangouts like Colectivo or Starbucks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt was nice to see all the fresh produce \u2014 the fruits, vegetables, even baked goods, breads and cheeses \u2014 especially because the produce section in Sargent has been a little lackluster,\u201d Segal said. \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve been missing some fresh fruit in my diet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nora Ahearn of Dallas said Evanston\u2019s market felt quieter and simpler than the ones in her home state, but that was part of its charm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThere were some pastries and breads there that seemed really good, and the fruit was pretty cheap at one stand,\u201d Ahearn said. \u201cIt was also better than what you\u2019d get at the grocery store.
