{"id":7636,"date":"2025-07-22T21:16:24","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T21:16:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cherubs.medill.northwestern.edu\/2025\/?p=7636"},"modified":"2026-01-18T23:25:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T04:25:21","slug":"dining-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cherubs.medill.northwestern.edu\/2025\/07\/dining-hall\/","title":{"rendered":"Beyond the basics: How to elevate the campus dining hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When Bethany Karlinsky of New York first walked into Sargent Dining Hall, she said she was worried about finding something to eat as an \u201cextremely picky eater.\u201d As she learned the menus, she quickly found new ways to elevate her dining experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI don\u2019t like most meat, so I recommend putting tofu from the salad bar in rice and taco dishes instead,\u201d Karlinsky said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The dining hall categorizes offerings into sections: \u201cComfort\u201d for the main dishes, \u201cPure Eats\u201d for allergy-friendly options, a salad bar, \u201cFlame\u201d for sides and \u201c500 Degrees\u201d for pizza.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As Matilda Haney Foulds of Mountain View, California, found, students with dietary restrictions might have more difficulty picking something to eat.
