Cameras clicked and smiles widened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fifteen minutes later, the cherubs were cruising toward Lake Michigan on their annual boat tour. As a tour guide narrated Chicago\u2019s historical background during the 90-minute ride, they viewed the Windy City\u2019s skyline.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The first Chicago trip after three years of remote programming was wonderful, instructor Joe Grimm said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sarah Moghadam of Los Angeles loved learning about the skyscrapers\u2019 history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBeing on the boat tour made me appreciate the architecture a lot more than just walking past buildings I wouldn\u2019t have paid attention to,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If the ride gave students a zoomed-out view of Chicago, the subsequent lunch break gave cherubs a chance to see the city up close.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI come from a town in New Jersey that\u2019s close to Manhattan, so I\u2019m pretty used to the big urban atmosphere,\u201d said Uma Rajan of Haworth, New Jersey. \u201cChicago felt cleaner and more easygoing, but you were still totally in a city.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The day ended with a visit to Medill\u2019s graduate school, where instructor Elyssa Cherney spoke about her experience reporting on crime for the Chicago Tribune.
