My trend story about youth and PrEP, a prevention pill, allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and speak with high-profile employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Together with the grassroots organizations I interviewed, I feel like I have a better understanding of how public health initiatives are born. I've always been curious about public health journalism.
The first time I did my laundry at cherubs, swept my floor, or handled something 'major' on my own, I sent my parents a picture. I have to manage my time, making sure I get at least a little bit of sleep on the night the trend story was due. I have to manage my finances. All of this has stretched and grown my skills and allowed me to be more confident.
